Para Sport at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games

There is more para-sport than ever at the Commonwealth games with 22 medal events on the program in Glasgow this year.  Cycling will join the other 4 para sports (athletics, swimming, lawn bowls and powerlifting) with Australia fielding para athletes in all sports.

Also making history is table tennis para athlete Melissa Tapper who will be competing in the able bodied team.

Four para sports were fully integrated into the Commonwealth Games program in 2002.  Exhibition sports were included from 1994 where' S9' swimmers Kelly Barnes, Brendan Burkett, Adam Wood and I competed in the 100m Freestyle swimming event. The Glasgow games bring back great memories from the '94 Australian team - especially the excitement and nervous in the days leading up to the competition as our Aussie athletes are probably experiencing at the moment!
